A BIT ABOUT ME

I live with my wonderful husband and two incredible children (who have requested to remain anonymous just in case I ever wind up too famous…). They all impress and inspire me every day and I am so grateful to never stop learning from them. When not onstage, I am likely to be enjoying time teaching my kids about life in this world. I’m also a real estate professional and am known to be found hiking, biking, dancing, painting, cooking or attempting a home renovation project when the Wisconsin weather allows. By night, I love dining out, learning about wine and enjoying great hospitality or throwing a great dinner party at home.

I cannot not get enough of the performing arts and am a huge musical theatre nerd. My time in the car is my “me” time and while there, I like to rehearse new songs to sing and frequently enjoy listening to Seth Rudetsky’s show on Sirius XM because it makes me feel like I’m out for coffee with an old friend in New York. I do my best to support as much of the wonderful local work in the Milwaukee area as I can and we make regular trips back to our [once] home, New York to visit family and friends and keep up-to-date with all things entertainment.

MY WORK ONSTAGE

I believe in the power of collaboration and effective communication. I find joy in genuinely connecting with the artists I’m working with and in mastering and delivering the technical aspects of my performance. I’ve been given accolades for my versatile voice, polished dancing, comedic timing especially in villain roles and warmth while portraying motherly characters.

I have my BFA in music theatre and dance minor from Viterbo University. The earliest chapter of my career was spent in performance troupes and choirs as a teen, then summer stock companies as a college student followed by regional theatre companies, dance programs and independent NYC theatres. I certainly cannot fail to mention the seven on and off years in between contracts I spent building character and memories working as a singing server in Time Square!

Just prior to our wedding, my husband and I decided to take the plunge and relocate back to my native home in Wisconsin so we could focus on family and entrepreneurship. I couldn’t stay away from the stage and have enjoyed working with Skylight Music Theatre, First Stage, Music Theatre Madison, SideNotes Cabaret, Musical Mainstage, Sunset Playhouse, Children’s Theatre of Madison, TheatRED, Bombshell Theatre Company, and other educational programs since making my return nearly nine years ago. I’m looking forward to exploring the next professional opportunities near and far!

CHOREOGRAPHY

As a choreographer, I most enjoy drawing inspiration from history to create rich and dynamic musical numbers that tell authentic stories. Doing time period research and technique mastering is a core part of my early process. It is always a rewarding challenge to serve as the bridge helping directors to create beautiful pictures that match their vision and aiding performers to grow through their own artistic abilities to master each character’s stylized movement.

I excel in tap, ballroom/partnering, jazz, musical theatre and contemporary styles and thrive most while working with passionate professional and emerging artists. I am a meticulously organized planner and love being the mastermind behind large production numbers and directing onstage traffic patterns. Some of my favorite recent choreography credits include YOUNG FRANKENSTEIN, HAIRSPRAY, FUNNY GIRL, BEST LITTLE…IN TEXAS, GRAND HOTEL, SHE LOVES ME and ANNIE. I also work creatively on my own projects including SHIM SHAM SHEBANG!, a touring, interactive tap dance cabaret.

Studies include a variety of coursework at Alvin Ailey NYC, Steps NYC, Broadway Dance Center, Danceworks MKE and Milwaukee Ballet Center in addition to my musical theatre BFA and dance minor at Viterbo University.

What the reviews Say…

“…the utterly sensational SaraLynn Evenson embodies a cackling, crazed super villain whose source of power is her otherworldly voice. A deliciously evil diva, Evenson slays the role with her always (truly - always) pitch-perfect soprano, straddling funny and ferocious with remarkable ease.

-Kelsey Lawler, BROADWAYWORLD.COM

“Evenson hits every note (in a series of arias that challenge and even surpass the range of serious opera), flouncing humor as she goes, the amazingly high notes causing amusement at how easily she riffs through outrageous demands.”

-Dominique Paul Noth, URBAN MILWAUKEE

“A particular crowd pleaser was “Folie Bergeres” …and a fun bit with Liliane (SaraLynn Evenson) engaging the audience.

-Catherine Jozwik, WISCONSIN THEATER SPOTLIGHT

“SaraLynn Evenson, a singer whose whose fiery power in stratospheric regions, is never less than thrilling, performed with a gusto and dedication that brought appreciative outbursts from the audience on several occasions.”

-David Rabinovitz, NITELIFE EXCHANGE

“But the most amazing vocals of all are rendered by Zombina. This domineering invader is a presence to be reckoned with, both physically and musically.”

-Julie McHale, GMTODAY.COM

“SaraLynn Evenson as Arthur’s mother does indeed solve problems through song. She warmly reminds Arthur that he is “undeniable” and that it’s impossible to be boring when you’re the only one like you.

-Kelsey Lawler, BROADWAYWORLD.COM
